Kind of a Big Deal

Any idea how many nonprofits there are in the US alone?

The National Center for Charitable Statistics (NCCS) reports that there are currently over 1.5 million nonprofit organizations in the United States that collectively represent 9% of all wages and salaries paid in the US. (Most recent information from 2009).

So you can see that nonprofit field has really expanded and is no longer just small neighborhood lemonade stands and school bake sales. It has grown and become more professional in recent years. Nonprofit Management degrees are popping up everywhere, whereas only 5 years ago, there was only a handful of programs in the US.

So watch out world, the nonprofit field is becoming not only larger, but more educated and business orientated. We are kind of a big deal.

Another Blog?

I am now the proud owner of not one, but two blogs. A little excessive you say? Totally necessary, I say.

I have two passions in life - photography and nonprofit organizations (outside of my family and friends, of course). So until I find a genius money-making way to combine these two loves, I guess I will have to resort to keeping them separate.

I stumble upon so many great articles about various charities and nonprofit organizations that I wanted a place to post them for my own benefit and future review, but also an outlet to share this information with my co-workers, friends, and anyone else who might care. I'm sure my co-workers will appreciate getting 1-2 less daily emails from me! I hope this will be a place we can discuss and debate the latest and greatest happenings in the nonprofit world. No topic is off the table. I encourage you to weigh in with your personal opinions. I would love to hear from you.
